Wish I could get out of this slump long enough to finish the short story I've been trying to work on.

Never look down on another person unless you're helping them up.

WTF is up with people "liking" "throwing cats in bins" on Face Book? I swear this world becomes more and more fucked up all the time.

Spiritual Crisis

I have been in a spiritual crisis for quite some time but recently it seems to have gotten worse. I don't know if it's just part and parcel of being depressed, which is made worse by being overwhelmed, but nothing seems to bring me solace any more. I can't bring myself to meditate or do manifestation work as all I can think is "what's the use of any of it?" Of course I'm having a lot of trouble writing too. So all in all, yes, I'm depressed. Living on this planet as long as I have and having been born to be down, I certainly recognize that. I just wonder if anyone else has ever gone through a dark night of the soul where they question absolutely every aspect of their lives, their beliefs, their very soul, if we even have souls.
For my own part I tend to think that the majority of atheists I have encountered are real closed-minded buzz-kills. I prefer a position of open-minded skepticism. I believe that the soul (personality) is energy and energy does not cease to exist, it just changes form. I have been in the room with people who have died and I have sensed "something" leaving, and once it is gone, the body really is just a shell. We take it off like clothes or shed it like a cocoon when we are done with it. I really haven't ceased to believe that, I just seem to have become unable to FEEL it, or anything much at all besides despair. Maybe it's just part and parcel of living in these times. I swear, I have more stuff that's broken than that works. Maybe my own heart included.

Once I dreamed love would come and sweep me up away
Now it seems life's passed me by, I'm still alone here
Here come the tears
Looks like it'll always be the same
No-one here to comfort me
Here come the tears

All alone, no-one cares
So much to give to you all out there
Take me now in your arms
Let me rest safe from harm
Oh, I want to be loved
I need to be loved
Won't somebody love me?"

An old favorite by Judas Priest

Any more I don't want romantic love--that shit just always goes sour. What I am yearning for is friends that understand and to reconnect to the higher power. I need it more desperately than I can say.

Sorry to go on and on this way. I've just felt this despair for so long.

Cultured Puns

Nessa does Weekend Funnies on her blog. Since I am, unfortunately, a rather morose cuss by nature, I thought I'd break out of my usual doldrums and share a joke I recently read.

A French art thief was apprehended in his van near the Louvre. When asked why he committed the crime his answer was:

"Mon dieu! I stole the paintings because I required ze Monet to get Degas for my van! But you have captured me before I was able to get Tolouse and make my escape."

Upon looking in the mirror, I was both amused and horrified to realize that I have turned into my mother. What level of hell was this again?

I hate flies! I also hate earwigs. I guess they have a purpose, but they're gross! I have yet to figure out what purpose cockroaches have.

I'm catching a cold. I need some Emergen-C.

The Secret World of Dolly: A Deity's Perception of Human Suffering http://ping.fm/W79KP

A Deity's Perception of Human Suffering

This was a missive I wrote to a friend who lost her son six months ago. It may explain a little bit about my concept of deity.
I had a very complicated pregnancy and almost lost my son and my own life as well. He is the only person I really feel connected to. My parents tried, but their obsessiveness with perfection made me feel like I was never good enough and also I always felt like I had no right to say no. This low self esteem combined with borderline personality disorder has made it so that it is impossible for me to have a healthy romantic relationship and at this point I no longer want one.
It breaks my heart, the pain you are going through having lost a child. It is unfair. You are a good person and do not deserve this.
I'm not an atheist, I do believe that there is some sort of higher power and that the soul does survive the death of the body. But my belief in God is more like the American Indian concept of The Great Spirit rather than the church god that I also grew up with. I do believe that God/the Great Spirit knows how much you hurt and that there is a promise of reunion with our loved ones when we too pass into spirit. But missing them is so very hard. The time that higher beings sense is much different than the time we sense. Our lifetimes are but a minute to them. It's like our suffering passes in the blink of an eye in their perception. But it doesn't seem that way to us.
Sorry if I rambled a bit. I hope you are able to find some comfort soon.

Few positives to "Hooking Up"

A response to this article.

"Hooking up" is not a positive behavior from any standpoint. Aside from the greater risk of social disease, having this sort of detached attitude towards sex is unhealthy. People do need to have a sense of responsibility when engaging in sexual behavior. The attitude that it's okay to have sex with multiple partners without caring about the partner or the consequences is erroneous. Sex is actually better when the head (the big head) and the heart are involved rather than just the genitals.

http://ping.fm/CvKzL Dark poetry rant.

Dolly's Dark Poetry Rant

I haven't written any poetry in quite some time. I stopped writing poetry in part because of being overworked and feeling uninspired to write at all, and in part because when I write depressive poetry, the few people that comment generally say things like "sounds like you're really depressed" and "maybe you should try counseling."
I don't mean to be snarky--I know they're trying to be helpful. But my first thought with the "sounds like you're depressed comment" tends to be "no shit, Sherlock, you think? I have a mood disorder and it's not exactly like I'm living anywhere close to high on the hog even though I work all the goddess-forsaken time. Maybe, just maybe, I am a wee tad depressed. And maybe that shouldn't come as a surprise. It says right there in my side bar that I'm a person who lives with mental illness."
Again, I'm not wanting to put down someone who genuinely means well. But people tend to be uncomfortable when anyone expresses any emotion other than being okay with their lives. This is a means for me to deal with my depressive feelings. Maybe I'd prefer you didn't try to soothe it away. When I write happy poetry, it tends to be shit. Funny perhaps, but shit nonetheless. It's usually funny only to me.
As for counseling, don't make me laugh. Those fuckers don't get it. The only thing they get is my money from my pocketbook, and I need that shit to pay for food and housing. And the ones who work in the county mental health system are so overworked that they have no idea what to do with a person who isn't fairly well psychotic. They're used to dealing with critical cases, not the functioning mentally ill. So, no counseling for Dolly, thanks. Maybe if I win the lottery I'll consider springing for it. But I'm going to get a lot of chiropractic care and massages for my aching body first!

Dreamless Sleep

So tired, I draw the curtains to shut out the day
And close my eyes to the dim and lonely room
I don't want to dream of anyone
Or anything
I only crave oblivion
Is this what it feels like when you've lost all your dreams
And desire only eternal darkness?

Dolly's Big Fat Rant

You don't like the way fat people look? Well, we aren't asking you to lust over us! We're just asking for basic courtesy and to stop the fucking bullshit and lies like "fat people are all lazy, lonely, and unhealthy." Most fat people I know are either really hard workers or have physical problems (kidney failure or such) that keep them from being able to work. I have some physical problems but they are all musculoskeletal crap. I'm not about to drop over dead just because I should lose a pound or eighty. I don't have high blood pressure, diabetes, or any of that shit. I admit I don't have many friends (none in 3D) but that's because my fat, lazy ass is so lazy that I"m always...guess what...WORKING!!!!! Because I'm fat and lazy and don't do anything but watch TV and stuff my fat face. Give me a fucking break.
Thanks for hearing me out. I just had to rant about that load of bull manure that the fucking anorexia culture keeps trying to feed us.

I'm fat and I'm eating a brownie. Kiss my fat back cheeks if you have a problem with that. I am also really over size prejudice.

Pimping | End Human Trafficking Articles & Issues | Change.org http://ping.fm/GzyGl

Pimpin' Ain't Pimpin'

Who would have thought that a Twitter exchange between Demi Moore and reality TV star Kim Kardashian this past week would have provided a teachable moment on the subject of sex trafficking?

The exchange surrounded the word "pimp," which Kardashian used when she linked to a photo of her and some girlfriends out on the town, and labeled it "Big Pimpin'."

Moore, an advocate against sex slavery who recently donated $250,000 with her husband Ashton Kutcher to help the survivors of human trafficking, responded:

"No disrespect. I love a girls night out but a pimp and pimping [refers to] nothing more than a slave owner! If we want to end slavery we need to stop glorifying the 'pimp' culture."

The result? A slew of celebrity tabloid headlines pitting Demi vs. Kim.

But as Changemaker Rachel Lloyd, founder of the anti-trafficking organization GEMS writes on Change.org this week, the glaring omission from all the articles and commentary that resulted from the exchange is any real analysis of Moore's point — that we glamorize and glorify pimp culture, use terminology that seems to legitimize the practice, and in doing so ignore the fact that pimps are modern-day slave-owners.

Of course, Ms. Kardashian didn't intend to glorify real pimps any more than most people do when using the word as slang. But this slang desensitizes us to the terrible reality of pimps and the sex trade, and has a very real impact on the psychology of young girls most vulnerable to sexual exploitation.

The median age of entry into the sex industry in America is between 12 and 14 years old. And partially because of the use of the word "pimp" to glorify men in music videos and popular culture, many girls grow up thinking of a pimp as someone who is cool, rich, and sexy, rather than someone to be feared. Rather than as someone who might kidnap them. Or rape them. Or beat them for failing to bring home enough money one night.

This is the awful reality of pimps, who sell more than 100,000 children for sex in the United States each year.

It's unfortunate that it took a celebrity squabble to bring pimp culture to the nation's attention. But now that it's arisen, let's take this opportunity to have a real conversation about how to address a very real issue. For more information on the dark reality of pimping, click here.

You Are Original

You're one of a kind, baby! The jury is still out on what kind though...

You are creative, zany, and totally wild. You're all over the board, and having fun doing it!

People may accuse you of being totally random... you just have your own way of doing things.

You may go off in many different directions at once, but you always end up where you're supposed to be.

secretworldofdolly http://ping.fm/5DY8x To follow the story from the beginning visit the official blog.

secretworldofdolly She tried to be hopeful. Maybe Ugo was still alive. Maybe she could learn how to rescue him from wherever he was taken.

secretworldofdolly Anthos tried to stop these thoughts. It wouldn't do her any good to worry so when she had no idea what to do just yet.

secretworldofdolly "What if they were taken to some sort of other dimension? What if they're imprisoned somewhere, being tortured?"

secretworldofdolly A shiver passed through Anthos' body. Some of her relatives had died, but what about those missing? Where were they?

secretworldofdolly Why had Grampa been allowed to live? Why had she? In some ways their fate seemed worse than those who had been taken.

secretworldofdolly The curse had taken Anthos' father and her three brothers, her grandmother, her aunt and uncle, her mother, and Ugo.

secretworldofdolly Anthos was angry with herself. Grampa had once tried to tell her about the curse, but she had refused to listen.

secretworldofdolly "I spent my life trying to avoid such knowledge. I figured that I'd die young. But now I need to know for my kids."

secretworldofdolly "Grampa knew so much about all things magic," she said. "And yet he couldn't stop the bad things from happening."

secretworldofdolly Anthos tried to stay optimistic although she didn't feel hopeful. Grampa had sought all his life to break the curse.

secretworldofdolly "Grandfather, if you can hear me, if there is any way, please guide me to breaking this curse and saving my kids."

secretworldofdolly Anthos decided that one of her first tasks would be to look through Grandpa Justice's diaries and books. He had so many.

secretworldofdolly "Until I find a way to break this curse, the evil will keep preying on my family," she thought. "My kids aren't safe."

secretworldofdolly She reminded herself that it was good to have this home and money to fix it up. But she couldn't forget the curse.

secretworldofdolly Anthos got herself a glass of water. She looked out at the moon. As she drank, she realized that her hand was shaky.

secretworldofdolly First Macy was born, then two years later came Fabricius, then Dagmar. Ugo disappeared last year when Dagmar was four.

secretworldofdolly Ugo had been thrilled. He had always wanted children. Anthos had wished that she could be thrilled. But she worried.

secretworldofdolly She and Ugo had been childless for 9 years. But while celebrating Halloween and her 33rd birthday, things happened.

secretworldofdolly Anthos was now 43 years old. She had never intended to have children. The curse on her family worried her too much.

secretworldofdolly Quintos Knepp and Paraskevi Marinos Knepp at one time had four children. Of these only the youngest, Anthos, remained.

http://ping.fm/QxP0p Take a break and play Dungeons and Treasures. Free to play, even earn a little real $

secretworldofdolly Anthos' family had actually been very wealthy in her childhood. Things were quite idyllic before the tragedies happened.

secretworldofdolly Anthos' mother Paraskevi was the daughter of a Greek shipping magnate. She had married the old money of the Knepp clan.

secretworldofdolly Anthos' father had been an Englishman, Quintos Knepp. He was the son of grandfather Justice Knepp. He had disappeared.

secretworldofdolly Anthos was a bright child. She enjoyed studying geography and sciences, but her favorite subjects were writing and art.

secretworldofdolly Mum had been an elegant and sensible lady. She wanted Anthos to be elegant and sensible too. She was disappointed.

secretworldofdolly Anthos had always been determined never to punish her children for being imaginative. Imagination was usually good.

secretworldofdolly Anthos had actually gotten in trouble during her childhood for having too active an imagination. It made her mum angry.

secretworldofdolly "Anty, your imagination is getting the better of you," she sighed to herself. "But maybe one we move in I can write."

secretworldofdolly Before Anthos could see the face of the shadowy figure, she woke up with a start. Her children still slept peacefully.

cats I am pretty sure that my cat is smarter than most people, and a whole lot nicer.

secretworldofdolly Anthos gasped in shock. A doorway opened in the attic wall. Smoke billowed out and a shadowy figure became visible.

secretworldofdolly "The door is opening," said the brave magician doll, brandishing his wand. "The evil one is coming through. Be ready!"

secretworldofdolly The brightly lit attic grew dark as a black cloud hid the sun. The dolls squealed and huddled together in terror.

secretworldofdolly "You see, Mama, the dollies are good," Dagmar said. "Yes, I see. But we must learn more about the evil," said Anthos.

secretworldofdolly "You must help us defeat the bad magic," said the queen doll in the gaudy lime-green dress. "Or it will destroy us all."

secretworldofdolly "This is good magic," said the magician doll. "But you can feel that there is also bad magic. We'll help you find it."

secretworldofdolly The big girl doll ran her fingers through her own golden hair. "This house is magic, Mama Anthos," she said.

secretworldofdolly "But in the grown-up world, dolls can't move and talk," she said. "So how is it that you are moving and talking now?"

secretworldofdolly "You're right," Anthos agreed, remembering how the dolls of her childhood seemed to come to life at times. She felt sad.

secretworldofdolly "We see that we make you nervous," said a green-eyed girl doll near the size of Dagmar. "Grown-ups forget the magic."

secretworldofdolly "We were up here for many years alone with no-one to love us. We feared we'd be tossed with the rubbish. You give hope."

secretworldofdolly Anthos crossed her legs and sat on the floor by the little table. A bride doll poured tea. "We're glad you're here."

secretworldofdolly The dolls didn't seem malevolent. They were happy and smiling. They hugged Anthos' legs. "Come join us for tea."

secretworldofdolly The children's clothes were un-mussed. Their smiles were perfect. They looked like giant dolls. The dolls milled about.

secretworldofdolly There was something creepy about this otherwise idyllic scene. The normally boisterous children were dressed perfectly.

secretworldofdolly Anthos headed for the attic. She found the children up there having a tea party with the dolls and stuffed animals.

secretworldofdolly That night Anthos dreamed that she was in the old house. It was no longer creepy. It was brightly lit and full of joy.

secretworldofdolly Anthos supposed that once the place was cleaner and more brightly lit, and the dolls cleaned up, they would seem nicer.

The Happiness Project: Seven Tips If Youre Chronically Late http://ping.fm/Ws7IR

Anthos Knepp didn't want to say it in front of her children, but the old place gave her the willies. She thought the old dolls quite eerie.

They went to Lichwold to find a place to stay for the night. Dagmar hugged her plush bunny rabbit and talked to him about the dolls.

Mum finally convinced Dagmar that the dollies wouldn't mind waiting a few more days while the heat, lights, and water were turned on.

"Mum, mum, we have to stay!" Dagmar pleaded. "The dollies have been waiting for so long for someone to play with! Please, let us stay!"

They ran upstairs to the attic where there were many wonderful things. But the best of all were the dolls. Now Dagmar didn't want to leave.

The rooms still had Gramps' old furniture. It was covered with sheets to protect it from dust. There were old books and pictures everywhere.

"Be careful and mind your footing!" Mum called as the three children ran into the house. "There may be rotted boards!" The kids didn't hear.

The children were eager to see the inside, however, and begged Mum to let them in and have a wee look before they went off to town.

"Blimey, but it looks like the old place is about to fall down!" Mum groaned when she saw it. "We ought to stay in town until its fixed."

So the family moved from London up to Lichwold. It was very strange to have things so quiet. Instead of horns they heard birds and frogs.

The newly remade Lichwold was a nice town and Mum supposed she could spend some of the money to get the house fixed up and could get a job.

Then news came that Great-Grandfather Knepp had passed away and left a hundred thousand quid and the old house near Lichwold to Mum.

Mum had a nice job at the London Zoo in one of the gift shops, but when Daddy disappeared, the money wasn't enough. Mum was very worried.

Crouch End was a place that people didn't like to talk about much. A lot of strange things happened there. People tended to disappear.

Daddy's name was Ugo Bird. He worked as a taxicab driver in London. One night he took a fare to the borough of Crouch End and vanished.

Fabricius was seven years old and Macy was nine. Besides them, there was only mum now. Daddy had disappeared three months ago.

Mum told Dagmar and her brother Fabricius and sister Macy to stay out of the woods. She said there were pools of water and maybe quicksand.

The house was in the area that hadn't been rebuilt. There was a marshy wooded area just behind the house. Mum worried about this.

The house was outside of a town called Lichwold, which was about five miles south of the city of Bradford. Most of Lichwold was rebuilt.

Grampa had wanted to stay in the old house but he couldn't get anyone to come there to take care of him so he moved to a little apartment.

The old house had been repaired many times to keep it standing, but no-one had lived in it for a dozen years. Grampa couldn't stay there.

The new house wasn't really new. It was extremely old. Great-Grandfather Knepp had once said it was nearly 1000 years old.

Dagmar thought that she would like to have two last names too and thought she'd ask Mum about it as soon as they'd move into the new house.

Dagmar had her mother's last name: Knepp. Her brother had their father's last name: Bird. Her sister had both names: Knepp-Bird.

Of course Dagmar wouldn't have known anything about old family curses. She was only five years old, the youngest of three children.

The Knepp family had terrible luck keeping its members alive. It was said that there was a curse on the family due to what was once done.

When little Dagmar Knepp's 80 year old great grandfather died, he left his house to his eldest surviving adult relative: Dagmar's mother.

Bear with me. This is a test message to see if my Ping account is posting properly to my other accounts.

Don't entirely know where this will go. Story to be tentatively entitled Dagmar's dolls, wherein a little girl finds old dolls in old house.
